A busy week of rope access

It has been a busy week in Glasgow for our rope access services team.

We have had two teams of three skilled rope access engineers embarked on a challenging mission to address critical safety concerns in smoke shafts at sites in Glasgow. Faced with the failure of the initial pressure tests and unable to erect scaffolding, the decision to employ rope access services became paramount.

The Challenge

The smoke shafts, designed to mitigate fire hazards in high-rise buildings, posed a significant challenge when they failed their initial pressure tests. Traditional methods such as erecting scaffolding were deemed impractical due to various constraints. This necessitated a swift and efficient alternative, leading to the deployment of our rope access teams.

With a meticulous plan in place, the teams set out to seal fifteen floors with fire-resistant materials including fireboard and fireproof mastic. This aimed at enhancing the safety and integrity of the structures, ensuring compliance with stringent safety regulations.

Innovative Edge Protection

One of the primary concerns in such high-risk operations is ensuring the safety of our rope access team. We implemented innovative edge protection measures and by utilising wire slings as edge protection, the inherent hazards of working at heights were significantly reduced.
