What is IRATA?

The Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA for short), was formed in 1987. It was established by a group of the leading rope access inspection companies in the industry who had begun using rope access equipment as a safer way to complete work at height. Today IRATA is the world leading authority on industrial rope access, having trained over 130,000 Rope Access technicians worldwide.

What are the Benefits of IRATA Techniques?

The techniques developed by IRATA provide many benefits over alternative methods of access for work completed at a height. For our fully trained, professional technicians, it offers a much safer method of accessing areas of work. It eliminates the need for alternative access methods such as scaffolding or work platforms which are invasive, expensive and time consuming.

Rope access equipment can be set up and dismantled in a fraction of the time it would take to construct any alternatives.

As a result of quicker and cheaper set up times/costs, the overall cost of a job completed at height, using rope access equipment, will be significantly less.

Where can IRATA Techniques be Used?

While the techniques developed by IRATA were originally devised to tackle the difficulties facing the offshore oil and gas industry, it was quickly realised that it could be used to complete numerous other types of construction and maintenance work. IRATA techniques provide an excellent alternative to scaffolding and work platforms in construction and maintenance of industrial and commercial buildings. It is used for jobs such as painting and cleaning of buildings and provides an effective method of access for building inspections. It is also widely used in Scotland’s great outdoors and in transportation sites for devegetation and rock fall netting installation.
