Overcoming Challenges in De-Vegetation Project with Expertise and Safety Measures

We recently demonstrated our expertise in a challenging de-vegetation project on the side of the M8 motorway. Tasked with tree cutting to inspect a retaining wall, the project presented multifaceted challenges, including live traffic and potential winter weather hazards. Despite these obstacles, our rope access team showcased their commitment to safety and proficiency, ensuring the successful completion of the project to the client’s satisfaction.

The Challenge

The project’s primary objective was to facilitate inspection of a retaining wall, necessitating the removal of vegetation obstructing access. Compounding the challenge was the presence of live traffic heading eastbound toward Edinburgh, heightening safety concerns for both the rope access team and passing motorists. Furthermore, undertaking the work during winter introduced additional complexities, with adverse weather conditions posing potential risks to safety and productivity.

The Solution

Our rope access team approached the project with meticulous planning and a focus on safety. Recognising the need to mitigate risks associated with live traffic, the team implemented comprehensive traffic management measures. The hard shoulder was closed off to provide a safe working zone, ensuring minimal disruption to the flow of traffic while the de-vegetation work was underway.

To address the challenge of disposing of cuttings safely, we devised a lowering system. This innovative solution allowed for the controlled lowering of cuttings to the ground, preventing any obstruction or hazard to passing vehicles or pedestrians. By prioritising safety and efficiency, we ensured that the project could proceed smoothly without compromising on the well-being of their team or the public.
